Developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s, Pilates was designed to enhance strength, balance, flexibility, and body awareness—whether practiced on a mat or using specialized equipment. This approach to exercise stands out for its ability to build lean muscle and promote joint health, all while minimizing stress on the body. The method’s gentle yet potent movements empower individuals to improve both muscular strength and flexibility, making Pilates particularly appealing to those seeking a low-impact workout that doesn’t compromise effectiveness.
By emphasizing precise, controlled movements and proper alignment, Pilates offers lasting benefits for overall physical well-being. Its focus on mindful engagement not only supports sustainable fitness goals but also encourages participants to develop a deeper understanding of their bodies. As a result, Pilates remains a highly effective, accessible option for anyone looking to enhance their health and maintain an active lifestyle without placing unnecessary strain on their joints or muscles.

The Reformer uses a moving carriage attached to multiple springs for added resistance. Pilates Reformer classes are a low impact full body workout that can be done at all levels and ability.
Sumas Mountain Studios offers group reformer classes that can accommodate up to six people. Smaller class sizes foster a more comfortable and welcoming environment, promote safer sessions by allowing the instructor to closely monitor everyone, and provide opportunities for more personalized attention. With fewer participants, each individual receives greater support, making it easier to address specific needs and create a more engaging learning experience.

Sumas Mountain Studios provides a range of specialty classes designed to support individuals dealing with specific health challenges. Their offerings include sessions tailored for those recovering from injuries or managing spinal conditions. Additionally, they feature specialized classes focused on pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation for knee, hip, and shoulder replacements. By addressing these unique needs, Sumas Mountain Studios ensures participants receive targeted guidance and support throughout their recovery journey.

I started teaching Pilates eleven years ago. My passion for Pilates began 26 years ago when I needed to find an exercise that I would stick with and would help strengthen my core muscles. I loved it so much I decided to become an instructor. I combine my expertise and experience to offer sessions that are tailored to individual needs, ensuring that every client gets the best out of each session.
I completed my level three comprehensive training diploma with Body Harmonics and continue to take specialized courses to benefit my client.
